When chronic pain and illness go unvalidated, the psychological fallout and clinical consequences are profound:
• Medical gaslighting leads to trauma, anxiety, and emotional shutdown.
• Isolation intensifies—loved ones, friends, and even we ourselves struggle to understand.
• Care is delayed or denied—without a diagnosis, treatment options shrink, referrals stall, and accommodations are withheld.
All of this is incredibly overwhelming. And that’s before you even factor in the radical life changes that unfold while we wait for answers.
No one knows what to do—not doctors, not spouses, not friends, and certainly not us.
This leaves the undiagnosed not only in pain, but burdened by a guilt we never asked for. We can no longer live the life we once had, and we’re left with no clear explanation. It’s a living nightmare.
I created this page as a space for those who’ve walked this path to share their stories—and for myself, as an outlet. It’s easy to spiral under the weight of frustration and overwhelm. Patient advocacy is exhausting, especially when it turns up fruitless again and again.
But this blog isn’t just a place to vent. It’s a challenge—to all of us—to look beyond the pain and seek out sources of inspiration.
For me, that’s Jesus, my favorite band, twenty one pilots, and doing my best to learn something new every day.
The question is, what inspires you? Your story is important, and we want to hear it!
In order to think outside of the parentheses, each post, I leave a scripture, meme, and/or music clip or video that inspired the title and blog content because, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” -John 1:5
